Audiodrama: The Shadows by Kaitlin Prest

cbc.ca

Kaitlin is a young artist struggling to make great work and find great love. She believes that the love depicted in Hollywood movies is real and that she will be one of the lucky ones to find it. When Kaitlin falls for someone who challenges her romantic ideal, she is faced with an impossible choice and a decision that can't be unmade. The Shadows is a story about the anatomy of a relationship: a crush, a choice, a resentment and an end.

This is an audio fiction series in podcast form (six episodes of around 35 minutes), but I believe it is quite autobiographically inspired. There's a mix of narration, dialogue, bits of music, sound effects etc. that come together to make the most of the medium.

I binge-listened to this while doing some work, since listening to this genre requires less concentration than informative podcasts, or ones that read fiction directly from text. By the end I felt like I've been reading an immersive book, and I think the story communicates some complex feelings well.

(There are links to a few podcast platforms on the webpage, but it's also on other platforms like Spotify)
